Thomas Sputo is Master Lecturer Emeritus, having retired from active teaching in 2015. He does continue to mentor student activities and maintain a small research presence. He is presently a consultant with Sputo and Lammert Engineering, LLC in Gainesville, FL, designing and investigating buildings and other structures, and the Technical Director of the Steel Deck Institute.
Sputo is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute Committee on Specifications, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Diaphragms. Other code writing committee memberships include the American Institute of Steel Construction and the American Welding Society. He is a former chair of the ASCE Committee on Cold-Formed Steel. He has over 30 years of experience in varied areas of structural design, including specialty engineering of manufactured components.
