Innovations in Structural Design

ABSTRACT:
The Innovations in Structural Design presentation will provide a brief overview of the scope of services provided by Martin/Martin, followed by an overview of a few recent Martin/Martin structural projects that highlight design innovations and creativity. Some of the topics include use of high strength materials in reinforced concrete, architecturally exposed concrete, cantilevered feature stairs, curved structural glass, moveable stage roof rigging, synergy of structural design and artistic vision, and use of tuned-mass dampers. Additionally, technological advances such as Lidar, augmented reality, and virtual scanning will be presented to show how they can benefit a variety of projects. Lastly, a recent UF graduate will discuss some of the scope of work encountered at a structural consulting firm during the first year after graduation.
